I did mention this project last year, but now they've got a strong male cast: 'Deadline' reports that Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jason Clarke will be scaling EVEREST! Based on different books which brought stories from the survivors the film will depict the 1996 Mount Everest expedition in which eight members lost their lives when they got into a nasty snow storm over at EVEREST. It is interesting that this Universal film has a rival project at Sony which will, with the same title, be directed by Doug Liman with Tom Hardy in the lead role.

  Speaking of Jake Gyllenhaal, he has ditched INTO THE WOODS musical for NIGHTCRAWLER a crime thriller about a young man who gets sucked into the strange world of Los Angeles freelance crime journalism. He was supposed to play Rapunzel's prince next to Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and Chris Pine in INTO THE WOODS.

The film comes out next May with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman also in the cast! In television news today, one of the most promising of the upcoming science fiction shows HELIX has found its lead star! Billy Campbell will play emotionally troubled Centres for Disease Control pathologist Dr Alan Farragut whose marriage has recently fallen apart after his wife had an affair with his brother! Coming to SyFy next January HELIX will follow a group of scientists at a high-tech research facility in the Arctic who investigate a possible disease outbreak — and Farragut's brother reaches out to him after being infected by a deadly virus. They quickly find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation.The show is supposed to have 13 episodes in the first season and it will be shoot in Canada! A TROUBLED PRODUCTION

HUNGER GAMES and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN star Sam Claflin was originally supposed to play the lead role (after Alex Pettyfer bowed out of the project) which later on went to Ben Barnes from DORIAN GRAY and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA PRINCE CASPIAN. At the same time Alicia Vikander took the female role only after Dianna Agron, Jennifer Lawrence and Imogen Poots dropped out. The movie had problems during the production and was postponed, partly because a visual effects studio which worked on the movie had a bankruptcy and had to be saved by Universal Pictures. It will now premiere in January 2016 almost a year after its original release date.

According to rumours McAvoy managed to beat out Jack Huston from BOARDWALK EMPIRE and Toby Kebbell from WRATH OF THE TITANS for the role of infamous Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein. I have already informed you before that the big screen adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel will have Daniel Radcliffe playing Victor's faithful servant and assistant Igor. The film will deal with friendship and redemption in a revisionist take on the story which will also have a sf element in it. Paul McGuigan (LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) is directing.

Did you know that FRANKENSTEIN is actually a creation of a teen girl? Mary Shelley, who wrote the novel in 1818 in London, was only 19 when she started writing it and 21 when it was published for the first time anonymously.  She came up with the book when she, her husband famous poet Percy Shelley and their friend Lord Byron, decided to compete who will make a better horror story. The story then appeared to her in a dream. It is also considered one of the first sf novels ever! Both Shelley's and Byron's publishers have originally refused to publish the book!

Another film on the famous monster arriving to the theatres much sooner is I, FRANKENSTEIN which will start its cinematic life next January following an unlikely hero who comes to the aid humankind as a race of supernatural creatures look to take over Earth. The story of this one centres on Adam Frankenstein (Aaron Eckhart), the creation of Dr. Frankenstein who is still alive centuries after his "birth." Adam is hunted down by a clan of demons who want to learn Adam's secret in order to reanimate deceased demons to start a new army. The monster will be encountering other famous movie monsters including the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Invisible Man, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde plus many more, in a re-imagined contemporary setting. Bill Nighy plays a demon prince, with Socratis Otto playing the prince's right hand man, who goes after Adam. Television star Yvonne Strahovski is Terra, the female lead a scientist who is working on reanimating the dead, with LORD OF THE RINGS star Miranda Otto playing the queen of the gargoyles who wants to help Frankenstein. SPARTACUS star Jai Courtney will be Gideon, leader of the Gargoyle army.

The film, which was shot over in Australia, and is produced by the UNDERWORLD producers is actually an adaptation of a graphic novel.  Both Aaron Eckhart and Miranda Otto practised martial arts for three months for this movie. Bill Nighy loves playing evil demons, since in UNDERWORLD he already played a Vampire king!

Apparently comedy actor Russell Brand is a true supporter of football club West Ham United. Singer Katy Perry's ex-husband was also intended to be an investor club.

As reported by Showbiz Spy, some time ago, one friend of Russell's film star reveals 'Get Him to the Greek' has a dream to become one of the owners of West Ham United for a long time.

"Russell is a Hammers fan since birth," says the friend.

The source said Russell seems to want to live out their dreams in the near future. Moreover, the process of divorce with Katy now has reached the final stage.

"After separating from Katy, Russell now has more spare time to get to watch the game," he said.

Grammy-winning Colombian singer, Shakira, now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In a ceremony Tuesday, surrounded by hundreds of fans, Shakira's star unveiled in front of the W Hollywood Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. It is the star of the 2454 Hollywood along the way.

"It's incredible," said the singer and activist. "I want to thank you all." Shakira says she remembers being on that path as a tourist when he was 7 years old accompanied by his mother who said, "Shaki, one day you will have your own star sign here."

"If someone heard the conversation, they would think him crazy," said Shakira, is flanked by his parents at the ceremony. Ceremony for 34-year-old singer took place at night as a tribute to her Latin Grammy Person of the Year in Las Vegas. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Barranquilla, Colombia.  INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY

Epic adventure 47 RONIN is helmed by visionary director Carl Erik Rinsch (The Gift). Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that's never been seen before.  While the film is based on the true story of the forty-seven ronin, it is a fantastical take, being set "in a world of witches and giants"! The film will tell a stylized version of the legendary story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in 'The Lord of the Rings' saga, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as 'Gladiator'. Costume designer Penny Rose has said that although the costumes are following the traditional style, the kimonos and other outfits will also have a fashion twist to them and will be very colourful. Interesting piece of news comes from Matthew Vaughn too who is apparently trying to cast music star Adele as the villain in his new film THE SECRET SERVICE. The movie will see Taron Egerton playing a teen runaway who is recruited into the spy business by his uncle, played by Colin Firth.Since he wants to cast other showbiz stars too, Vaughn also plans to hire David Beckham and Elton John. Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson are already in the cast.

 STARZ EPIC SHOW 'OUTLANDER'

We have new casting news for Starz upcoming epic show OUTLANDER based on Diana Gabaldon's fantasy saga about a woman who time travels to the 18th century Scotland where she falls in love with a highlander to be played by Sam Heughan. Tobias Menzies, who was amazing as Brutus in ROME and as Edmure Tully in GAME OF THRONES too, will play a double role: he will be the woman's husband from the 1940's, a history professor who worked for British secret service during WW2, and also his 18th century ancestor Black Jack, who is the villain of the story. The main female role is yet to be cast and the shooting of the 16 episodes (the longest for any of the Starz epic shows) starts this Autumn in Scotland.
